Veteran’s Day

Mr. McCuskey is a seventh-grade math teacher at Brunswick Upper Middle School for the past three years. He is a former Marine who was commissioned as an officer after college.  He later earned the rank of Captain. The reason he joined was because he wanted to serve his country. He had great relationships with his fellow troops, and he liked his experience as a Marine. Mr. McCuskey was stationed in many places across the world. He served at bases in Pensacola, FL, Fort Meade, Misawa Air Base, Japan, and Edzell, Scotland. Mr. McCuskey is a hero and a great man, so if you see him, thank him for his service.

Veterans Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States of America every year on November 11th. It commemorates veterans who serve or have served in the armed forces. In 1919, President Wilson established an earlier version of Veteran’s Day called Armistice Day to celebrate the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1954 President Eisenhower established Veterans Day instead of Armistice Day after the Korean War.  The holiday is only called Veterans Day in the United States, but it is called Remembrance Day in Canada. Veterans Day is often confused with Memorial Day, which honors veterans who have died. Veterans Day is celebrated with ceremonies with flags and flowers, parades, speeches in different areas throughout the country, and a moment of silence at 11 am.
