MS Play- Robin Hood

On April 9th and 10th at Baker Theater, middle schoolers from Sacred Heart and Brunswick put on a great performance of “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.” The play took place in Medieval England and starred the infamous outlaw, Robin Hood, who tries to save his love, Lady Marion, from the Evil Prince John. The two narrators helped Robin Hood get out of some sticky situations while also telling the story. The cast and crew had been working since January to perfect their roles in the play. Knox Williams, an eighth grader who played Robin Hood, said “The play may take 2 months, but that first night on stage makes you realize why it was 2 months of work.” The play was directed by Mr. Stamey, Ms. Embry made the costumes, Mr. Porter designed the props, and Mr. Smith worked with the student tech crew. While the audience is watching the play, the cast and crew need to be getting their props, checking their queues, and figuring out when they’re on next. There are many rooms backstage in which kids get changed, put on makeup and mustaches, and even can peek out at the audience. In other words, there’s a lot of chaos going on behind the scenes! Although the finished play is worth it, it takes lots of time and effort to memorize lines, remember when you go on or off the stage, and know where you are supposed to be in a certain scene. Mr. Stamey said that “I was incredibly proud of our cast and crew throughout this process. They supported one another, took creative risks, and brought a sense of joy and confidence to The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood that made the entire production special.” Congratulations to everyone involved with the play!
