MS Cross Country
Gregory Psaki ’30 |
Middle School Cross Country this year has been successful, even with a small team. The runners this year are Gregory Psaki, Marcus Kostel, and Sawyer White. The captain is Lola Thompson (Mrs. Thompson’s dog). The coaches are Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Orem, and Mr. (Max) Kennedy. Gregory has finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the first three races. Marcus has finished 8th, 6th, 6th, and 6th. Sawyer finished 6th, 7th, 9th, and 8th. All three runners embrace the small team and like it because they all spend a lot of time together and really get to know one another. They like to encourage each other (and sometimes trash talk)! Despite the team only having three runners, they are poised for a stellar final race.
One crucial component to last year’s middle school team is not on it this year, even though he is only in eighth grade. Shaurya Gupta is an eighth grader running varsity and thriving in a new environment. We got the chance to talk to Shaurya last week. To give you an idea of just how fast he is, his goal for the season was to break 18 minutes for a 3.1 mile run and he already did that! He mentioned how it has been a big transition from middle school distances (about 2.25 miles) to high school (3.1) and how the practices are longer and more demanding. With two races left in his season, Shaurya hopes to break 17 minutes in one of his final races. Shaurya’s talent and work ethic will likely lead to him being a fixture on the varsity team for the next four years.
